We last consulted with Dr. Jennifer Markham in Combat Chronic Fatigue with this 30-Minute Treatment. In the prior article, we learned from Dr. Markham that Soundbed Therapy is an ideal treatment to combat chronic fatigue.
At the American Center for Biological Medicine (ACBM), we take a biological and holistic approach that is embedded in the guiding principles of naturopathic medicine. If you are looking to improve and boost your immune system, then we have a highly beneficial biological medical treatment for you–Ozone Therapy.
We consulted again with the ACBM’s resident expert Dr. Markham about Ozone Therapy and how this treatment option can benefit your immune system.
How does Ozone Therapy benefit your immune system?
Dr. Markham says that Ozone Therapy activates the immune system in a way that supports normal function by increasing interferon production, TNF, interleukin-2, and other cytokines. These factors prompt a cascade of subsequent immunological reactions. Ozone activates the antioxidant system and affects oxygenation in resting muscles and tissues.
Aging and the diseases of aging are caused primarily by decreased oxygen utilization. This decrease leads to the excessive free radical production that results in degenerative disease. Decreased oxygen utilization exerts its effects by causing a decrease in the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD/NADH) ratio.
Why is Ozone Therapy one of the ACBM’s most popular treatments?
Ozone Therapy is effective for many diseases including the cellular changes associated with aging because it normalizes the NAD/NADH ratio. Since decreased oxygen utilization is the primary cause of degenerative disease, the treatment of all diseases, including aging, cancer, and autoimmune disorders like systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), rheumatoid arthritis, and multiple sclerosis, is maximally enhanced in the presence of optimal oxygen utilization.
Ozone Therapy has broad therapeutic applications, such as:
- Helping with dental cavities and oral infections
- Antioxidative effects
- Decreasing cholesterol
- Being supportive for injuries
- Being supportive for hypoxia (lack of oxygen to tissues) conditions
- Being supportive for ischemia (lack of blood to tissues, organs, and muscles) conditions
To whom would you recommend Ozone Therapy treatment to?
Ozone Therapy is an excellent for:
- Abnormal cell growth
- Anti-aging benefits
- Autoimmune disorders
- Circulatory disorders
- Degenerative conditions
- Geriatric conditions
- Infectious diseases
- Rheumatism or arthritis
How often should you have an Ozone Therapy treatment?
Dr. Markham says that Ozone Therapy can be administered multiple ways including IV, rectal, and into the ear canal. “Of course, treatment is always individualized, however for general health and anti-aging support, I recommend one treatment per week for the first two to four weeks followed by two treatments per month,” continues Dr. Markham. For Ozone Therapy’s antimicrobial effects, two treatments per week is typically suggested.

About Dr. Jennifer Markham
Dr. Jennifer Markham discovered naturopathic medicine after being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis–an autoimmune disease that wreaks havoc on the digestive, nervous, and immune system. She also witnessed the near death of her mother due to complications with Crohn’s disease–another digestive autoimmune disease. When Dr. Markham committed herself to finding the answers behind her own chronic illness, she discovered naturopathic medicine, began medical school, and wholeheartedly embodied the mindset “physician health thyself.” After medical school, Dr. Markham aimed to restore her own health, which allowed her to support and empower others to achieve optimal vibrancy and health. She then had a private practice in Boulder, Colorado for two years with a primary focus in management of chronic disease, including mental and emotional conditions, autoimmune disease, gastrointestinal disorders, endocrine disorders, infertility, women’s health, aging, and neurodegeneration. She utilizes foundations of lifestyle balancing through individualized daily practices, nutrition, movement, and proper sleep hygiene. The therapies she provides are biotherapeutic drainage (a European homeopathic system), gemstone therapies, Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and hydrotherapy. In chronic disease, the nervous system invariably contributes to the worsening of the disease or limits the healing. Dr. Markham focuses on nervous system balancing through lifestyle, therapies, and treatments individualized to each patient.
