Biological Dentistry in Providence, RI

Biological dentistry, also referred to as holistic dentistry, is a practice that focuses on diagnosing, preventing, and treating oral health issues by considering the whole person. It acknowledges that factors such as stress, diet, and sleep patterns can affect oral inflammation and disease. Unlike traditional dentistry, which often treats symptoms, biological dentistry aims to identify and address the root cause of dental issues. This approach takes into account a patient’s physical and emotional health before recommending treatments.

The Difference Between Biological Dentists & Traditional Dentists

The Difference Between Biological Dentists & Traditional Dentists

While both biological dentists and traditional dentists have received the same education and training, their approach to dental care differs significantly. Traditional dentists typically focus on treating symptoms, such as drilling and filling cavities, without delving into the underlying causes.

In contrast, biological dentists take a more holistic approach, considering a patient’s diet, lifestyle, and overall health as contributing factors to their oral health. Biological dentists also use natural, non-toxic, and biocompatible materials, avoiding potentially harmful substances like mercury used in traditional dentistry.

Biological Dentistry Services We Offer

Implant-Supported Crowns, Bridges, and Dentures provide a more stable and comfortable option than conventional dentures. Implants are placed strategically within the jawbone allowing a permanent and more supportive foundation, giving you a natural biting, and chewing capacity.

How It Works: Your crown will be made in-house (same as regular crowns).

How Long Does The Treatment Take?: About 2 hours.

Laser Dentistry uses innovative dental technology, which combines the precision of laser energy with the power of ozonated water to promote the regeneration of healthy periodontal (gum) tissue while eliminating disease.

The complexity of the dental laser allows use on both hard and soft tissue: reshaping gum contours, exposing wisdom teeth, removing tooth decay, and repairing bone defects.

Laser dental surgery is minimally invasive and can be done without dental drills or shots, leaving you more comfortable during and after the procedures.

Gum disease is a chronic form of “silent” inflammation that can eventually cause destruction of the supporting bone and gum tissue, and lead to tooth loss if left untreated. During periodontal cleanings, we can remove harmful bacterial biofilms and buildup below the gum line in order to maintain a healthy support structure for your teeth.

How It Works: Your BioMed practitioner will numb the area with a topical treatment or offer you an anesthetic. The practitioner will use cavitron to break down bacteria, and occasionally use a diode laser to kill bacteria deep with teeth. You’ll typically be given a Stella Life Rinse to use at home.

What Symptoms/Systems It’s Good For: Gum disease

How Long Does The Treatment Take?: 60-90 minutes, several sessions is typical.

Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) is used in many dental surgical procedures such as extractions and dental implants. PRF accelerates the healing process, decreases surgical pain and swelling for both dental implants and all tooth extraction. PRF also improves the strength of bone’s direct structural and functional connection to implants.

How It Works: Your BioMed practitioner will draw blood. The blood is centrifuged to spin down and separate white and red blood cells and plasma. The plasma is flattened and can be mixed with bone grafts to be placed into the extraction site or around the implant site.

What It Feels Like: varies person to person

Our dentists and dental technicians offer custom smile design analysis with the most biocompatible and advanced dental ceramics to provide the most lifelike and resilient restorative result.

What Symptoms/Systems It’s Good For: Tooth discoloration, abnormal tooth anatomy.

How Long Does The Treatment Take?: About 2 weeks for results from the lab to come back after the initial impressions are taken.

Preventive dental maintenance is a cornerstone to total body wellness with thousands of scientific studies linking dental disease to a broad range of systemic illnesses ranging from heart disease, pregnancy complications and even cancer.

Regular teeth cleanings and dental checkups are the foundation for optimal oral health. Your regular checkups allow you and your dentist to monitor your health so that any early signs of infection or decay can be discovered, preventing bigger concerns later.

SureSmile® (Removable Aligner Therapy) offers an alternative method to traditional braces. Aligning the teeth in this fashion will not only improve aesthetics, but straight teeth aid in improving your optimal oral and overall health. SureSmile® allows you to remove these almost-invisible trays while eating or brushing your teeth, and allows you to floss with less difficulty.

How It Works: A BioMed practitioner will take digital impressions of your teeth and send them to the lab where your aligners will be made. Multiple sets of aligners will be sent back, and you will wear each set for around 2 weeks before switching to the next set.

What It Feels Like: Wearing a thin set of clear aligners.

What Symptoms/Systems It’s Good For: Aligning teeth.

How Long Does The Treatment Take: Time varies depending on severity of misalignment.

Teeth Whitening has become one of the most sought-after cosmetic treatments in dentistry. Our in-office whitening treatment will allow you to brighten and remove staining, leaving you with a more youthful appearance in the safest most protected manner safely and effectively.

How It Works: Your gums will be covered for protection, and a light-activated whitening gel will be applied to your teeth for four, 15-minute sessions. Impressions will be taken to make custom trays, which you can use for continued care at home.

What It Feels Like: The whitening gel can cause sensitivity in your teeth for up to 24 hours.

What Symptoms/Systems It’s Good For: Whitening yellow teeth.

How Long Does The Treatment Take: About 2 hours.

Problems can show up as pain in the jaw joint as well as surrounding facial muscles, but oftentimes the problem can go undiagnosed as several seemingly unrelated symptoms. During your consultation, your Temporomandibular Joint will be assessed for what is more commonly referred to as TMJ disorder. Whether caused by clenching and grinding, or due to misalignment of your teeth and jaws, TMJD can often be treated with the fabrication of a night-time removable appliance, or an adjustment and realignment of your bite.

How It Works: A BioMed practitioner will feel your jaw joint to assess for pain.

What It Feels Like: A general massage of the area.

What Symptoms/Systems It’s Good For: General pain in the jaw, or pain with opening or clenching the area.

How Long Does The Treatment Take: Assessment of the area takes a few minutes.

This means avoiding substances like mercury, which can have negative impacts on overall health. By using safer materials, biological dentists ensure that patients are not exposed to unnecessary risks.

4. Balancing Functionality and Cosmetics

Biological dentistry seeks to achieve a balance between functionality and aesthetics. Biological dentists understand that oral health extends beyond just a beautiful smile and strive to provide treatments that prioritize both form and function.
